So The Enchantments were in the studio this past Sunday working with Brandon Sommers at McNally Smith College of Music. We arrived bright and early at 8 a.m. ready to work!
Once the engineers were set up, we got started. The studio experience was really fun, and we ended up laying down some good tracks. We can't wait to hear how they sound once Brandon mixes and masters them!
We ended up recording three songs:
Kaleidoscope Heart- Sara Bareilles
King of Anything- Sara Bareilles, solo Meghan Roehm
Right as Rain- Adele, solo Sammy LaBrasca
It was an amazing experience and we can't wait to head back into the studio again soon! We are all so grateful for Brandon and the amazing people at McNally Smith for making this happen!

One of the best things about being in The Enchantments is that everyone gets along, and we're all friends outside of the group as well! Here are some shots of us together outside of rehearsal:

Recording
Tomorrow, The Enchantments will be recording songs for our next album! We have previously recorded two albums, and are very excited to be adding this new project.
We will be recording at McNally Smith College of Music. Brandon Sommers is very generously donating his time and is recording us for free! Brandon sings in another Twin Cities a cappella group called Up 'til 2. They're all incredibly talented and nice guys!

Spring Sing!
Every year, The Enchantments host a final concert at the end of spring semester, called Spring Sing. It's our final showcase of some of the lovely music we've been working on this school year!
This year, we're trying something a little different. Each singer chose a song for which they'd sing solo and either arranged it themselves or had another talented arranger do it for them. Now everyone has a solo and we get to showcase a little more of each of our own individual styles of singing and making music. It's going to be fun!
We will also be joined this year by an opener, Patrick Hertz. Pat is a junior at the U of M and is a member of Basses Wild Men's A Cappella. However, Pat will be entertaining the audience with musical stylings of his own on the guitar. We are very grateful to have him with us!
We'd love to see you in the audience! Plus, it's FREE!!! Here's the information:
Thursday, April 28
7:30 p.m.
West Bank Auditorium: Willey Hall Rm 20
Saturday, April 30
7:30 p.m.
Rarig Center, Arena Theatre
And, for fun, a preview of some of the songs you'll hear:
King of Anything- Sara Bareilles, solo Meghan Roehm
Right as Rain- Adele, solo Sammy LaBrasca
American Honey- Lady Antebellum, solo Nora Kaffine
Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps- Cake, solo Angie Lindberg-Livingston
And many more!

Relay for Life
This past Friday the Enchantments had the wonderful opportunity to sing at Relay for Life, which is a fundraising event put on by the American Cancer Society and Colleges Against Cancer to raise money for cancer research, awareness, and more. It was a very emotional and meaningful event and we were honored to be invited.
The Enchantments sang at Relay last year as well, so this year, we decided we would put together a team and participate as well as perform! It was a humbling experience to see so many people (there were over 2,500 participants!!) come together for a common cause. The night was filled with hope and love and I know we look forward to participating again in the years to come!
Check out the U of M's Relay for Life page and consider making a donation to this very worthy cause:

A Cappella at the U
The U of M is home to three talented and unique a cappella groups. Besides the Enchantments, Basses Wild A Cappella is a group of all men, and Seven Days A Cappella is a mixed group. They're both full of wonderful singers and great people! Check them out on Facebook:

Goofing Around
We had a generous photographer, Gysai Jones, offer to come in and take some photos of us at rehearsal. We're so thankful to him! Here's a group shot. Tile floors are cold in the winter, as we found out!

Meet the Enchantments
The U of M's only all-female a cappella group, The Enchantments, counts 13 lovely ladies as members, plus our wonderful alumni director, for the 2010-2011 school year.
Started in the spring of 2006 with five girls, The Enchantments have come a long way. We've recorded two CDs, attended three a cappella competitions, put on numerous concerts, and performed at a large number of charity events. Watch for a detailed history of the group in an upcoming entry!
For now, here's a photo of the group singing Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" at a recent Gophers After Dark event.
